Revolut is a banking alternative that caters to the services of a regular bank, in a digital avenue through its app. These services include trading and investment support along with a swift and convenient foreign crypto exchange. Besides these provisions, it also supports five cryptocurrencies as well as several international fiat currencies. Revolut is now offering a metal card for allowing holders to spend cryptocurrency.
True to their vision of being a “global banking alternative,” the London fintech startup has launched a new metal debit card. Revolut describes it as a “full contactless” card that has been crafted with “obsessive attention to detail.” Revolut Metal is created from a single reinforced steel sheet using a diamond drill bit, and it weighs thrice the weight of a regular card. Physical vapour deposition has been used to layer paint particles, and a high precision laser to carve the customer’s details.
The Standard Revolut prepaid cards don’t cost anything, and consequently, don’t offer many benefits. An upgrade to a Premium card means a monthly subscription of £6.99 ($8) that would include unlimited foreign exchange, free international money transfers and ATM withdrawal.
A notch higher than the Premium card is the Metal card. Along with the amenities of a Premium card, additional features of this Revolut metal card, which comes at a £12.99 ($16.69) monthly fee are:
- A personal concierge that will let users get their bookings for a range of activities done by someone else, from that of a restaurant to a concert.
- Holders will get cash back on every purchase. Purchases made outside Europe will receive one per cent cash back, while transactions inside Europe will fetch cashback of 0.1%. Cashbacks are earned depending on the customer’s preference, which could be American and Canadian dollars, Indian rupees, Israeli shekels or cryptocurrency.
“We see Revolut Metal as an essential lifestyle product for people of all ages and incomes, ranging from digital nomads to everyday working professionals,” stated Revolut, as reported by Hard Fork. “We are absolutely convinced that Revolut Metal will be the exclusive card of the future and an absolute must for travellers worldwide,” the company further added.
Revolut’s recent funding round valued the business at $1.7 billion, merely six months after the previous round’s estimation at $350 million. From the way they are going, it is exciting to wait and see what else Revolut has in store for its customers.
