Former US Head of Intelligence to speak at the Block Seoul conference

A global technology summit by the name of Block Seoul is being organised at Seoul, South Korea from 16th September to 18th September. The conference aims to unite “crypto investors and innovators.” Among these, one of the key speakers at the event will be General Michael Hayden, the former director of Central Intelligence Agency (CIA) and National Security Agency (NSA)

The Block Seoul conference is reported to be hosting over 15,000 global delegates, including several prominent former government officials from the United States. The former director of U.S. National Intelligence Lt. General James Clapper, along with General Hayden, will also be speaking at the event. He is known for his New York best seller book ‘Facts and Fears: Hard Truths from a Life in Intelligence,’ and for his expertise in cybersecurity.

Other distinguished speakers who will be speaking at this conference include the founder of Wikipedia Jimmy Wales, the CEO and co-founder of BTCC Bobby Lee, and the co-founder and COO of iXLedger Cristina Dolan.

“The citizens of South Korea were already deeply invested in blockchain, contributing greatly to the global crypto market. If you look at Bitcoin alone, South Koreans are responsible for 14 percent of that market,” said Jed Edman, chairperson of the organising committee for Block Seoul. The country has been able to maintain such force in the crypto market, despite the ban instituted by the South Korean government to deal with the problems such as hacks and scams within the ecosystem.

“The region is already in the midst of a building success in blockchain. Locally, almost half of the workforce is already investing in blockchain and more than 20 percent of all the crypto trading in the world is happening in South Korea. It’s no accident that we chose Seoul. We wanted to be at the center of current innovation and future thinking,” added Edman.

South Korea has been a popular destination for blockchain and cryptocurrency events, given the pace at which these industries have evolved in the country. Its capital, Seoul, was the host for Korean Blockchain Week that took place in July with over 2000 participants from more than 30 countries. Apart from being a home to several successful startups, two of the top 25 exchanges in the world, Bithumb and Upbit, are also from South Korea. The aggregate daily trading value of these two exchanges is reported to be over $200 million.
